Double Foot Productions does offer Joomla! site design and setup which you may have noticed is slightly more expensive than the WordPress options which is purely because of how customisable it is. I use this content management system on my main website (kjwriteleft.com) and it allows you to have pretty much any feature added to your website. While blog sites are great for specific businesses it is Joomla that stands out from the crown when you are looking at having a lot of content to attract visitors.
Plugin Options
Like WordPress, Joomla allows a lot of plugins that help with the background functions of your new website. I have put in a lot of trial and error with plugins for this CMS, and like most things developed under an Open Source initiative they can be either really great, or completely pointless. If you want an idea of how many addons there are for Joomla, then check out http://joomla.org.
The danger with plugins and modules (specific visible addons to your joomla site) is that it will slow the site down. This is where the trial and error comes in. You need to keep the tools that really help your website and ditch the ones that may look pretty but serve little function. Trust me on this as I have experienced huge CPU usage on my server before when running some poorly written addons.
Joomla For Content
While I absolutely love WordPress and use it for this site and others I run on a day to day basis Joomla has allowed me to organise poetry, writing, art, photography and more within one easily navigated site. This is where this content management system comes into its own. It is a lot more functional in terms of a publishing tool and allows greater control of layout and a better organisation of sections.
Should You Use Joomla?
Double Foot Productions believes in offering the best option to individual needs. Personally I use Joomla for power sites that I know will have a greater variety of content and features. It is more capable of being a fully fledged website and can be expanded as needed. If you are going to be publishing larger articles or want a more powerful shopping website then Joomla is definately for you. If you would like to discuss your needs then feel free to contact Double Foot Productions via the form below.
